Ampegy is actually the network marketing division of Spark Energy, a Texas-based multi-state power and gas provider that has been in business for over a decade and was founded by Keith Maxwell. Ampegy launched in February 2011 and is marketing Spark Energy’s gas and power services to residential customers in 7 states, including California, New York, Illinois and Texas.

From a business standpoint, it’s interesting to note that Ampegy’s chief marketing officer is Steve Smith, of Excel Communications fame. Smith is well known in the industry and he is arguably the highest earning individual in network marketing history. It’s always a plus to have someone on the corporate team who has the kind of experience that Smith has.

From a marketing point of view, energy is probably one of the easiest services to market, as everyone already uses it and will continue to use it. So in essence, you’re basically selling a service that people already use and using relationship marketing to acquire customers.

The Ampegy Business Opportunity

To become a distributor, you would have to pay an additional $400 upfront cost and then maintain some additional monthly fees to maintain your websites, which is pretty typical for network marketing businesses. The actual compensation plan provides several ways to earn income. Initial income is available through various customer-based bonuses that will “qualify” your distributors. There is also long-term residual income based on building a customer base that continues to use the service and is paid a monthly commission on their turnover. In addition, there are also Check Match Bonuses available for top producers. Overall, the compensation plan seems pretty fair and can be very lucrative for the right person.

Is Ampegy a good business opportunity?

To finish, Ampegy seems to be a good business opportunity. Not only can you take advantage of energy deregulation, but you can also engage with a company that can potentially be to energy services what Excel Communications was to telecommunications. Also, because Spark Energy has been around for over a decade, you will have the positive potential of partnering with a new network marketing company, but you will have the stability of a “parent company” that is strong and stable.

That said, having all of that in place is not enough to be successful. While it’s clear that having a stable company is critical to your business, at the end of the day, your success will depend on your ability to sponsor new people into your business, acquire customers, and build a productive team. One of the key components to achieving those things is the ability to market and generate leads. My recommendation is that you use a proven attraction marketing system that allows you to promote yourself, generate leads, make money even when people don’t join your business, and sponsor people on the back end. If you can incorporate online attraction marketing and branding with a strong offline system, there’s no telling how successful you can be with your Ampegy business.
