Why do you need a raised floor?

Before everything went high-tech and wireless, there was a time when, if you were finishing your basement, you would opt for a drop ceiling to hide your cables. This way, you could hook up your entertainment system without unsightly cables running down your wall and when you needed to fix your setup, you just put a tile on the ceiling, did what you had to do, and then put it back.

While modern offices today have a lot of things that are wireless, there are still plenty of cables available and therefore, following the false ceiling theme, raised floors were born. What they are are handy places to run all your cables out of sight and out of mind. If you need to repair something, just remove some of the flooring, get the job done, and return the flooring to its original appearance.

It may seem strange that you have a false floor in the office, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Instead of cold concrete underfoot, you now have a raised floor that is built from the base and can be kept warm or cool depending on outside temperatures and is also a great place to keep nasty things out of sight.

Raised floors can also be ventilated so you no longer need vents coming from the wall or ceiling. Instead, hot air can rise from the ground and does what hot air does: it rises to heat the entire space. The same goes for fresh air in the hot summer months.

The best part about a raised floor is that it can be any size you want, depending on your overall office space. If you just want a small false floor that you can access from above, that’s a good option, but they can also be built so that a technician can walk underneath to do whatever work needs to be done. The size of the free space for a floor is customized and adapts to your office and your needs.

Raised floors can be covered with carpet squares, tile, or hardwood-look substances so that any flooring appearance can be achieved while maintaining ease of entry. Most offices, hospitals, and the like have these raised floors, but they are so good at staying hidden that no one notices.
