Brazilian Wax Vs French Wax

Both Brazilian and French bikini waxing can be chosen for removing hair growing in the bikini line or genital/pubic waxing. However, there are some important differences between them that we explore below.

The year 1987 was the first time that the city of New York was introduced to the Brazilian waxing technique. This type of hair removal was introduced by 7 sisters from Brazil. Later, this Brazilian wax became popular in the United States of America and other parts of the Western world.

With a Brazilian bikini wax, all unwanted pubic hair is removed. This is possible because unwanted hairs that grow in the front, back or in the middle are completely removed during Brazilian bikini waxing. Sometimes some clients may ask the esthetician to remove all pubic hair from the bikini region, although it is more common for the esthetician to leave a remaining “landing strip.”

In this wax treatment technique, the esthetician will first cut the hair with scissors to allow the wax to reach the hair follicles. An application stick, usually made of wood, is then used to gradually apply the wax to the treatment area. Tweezing can be done to fix any stray pubic hairs after waxing.

It is prudent to note that the esthetician must have solid professional experience as Brazilian waxing is quite a difficult technique to perform. Patients should relax, try to keep their skin taut, and breathe normally.

A different end result is the goal of a French Bikini Wax. While the Brazilian bikini wax removes all or just a runway hair, the French wax typically leaves a small vertical strip of pubic hair that is about 3 fingers wide. Sometimes even an inverted triangular patch of bikini hair may remain.

However, the French wax will not remove hair that grows in the buttocks area, which is contrary to the Brazilian bikini wax in which hairs on the buttocks are also removed. However, hair that grows in the inner labia area will usually be removed in a French wax pubic hair removal treatment.

Like the Brazilian wax, the French bikini wax often requires patients to remove their panties. So if the patient is probably not willing to do this, neither hair removal method is an option. Additionally, in a Brazilian bikini wax, the esthetician may ask patients to adopt positions that expose their most intimate areas, such as spreading their legs wide, etc.

Therefore, most of the time, patients who are going to wax for the first time may choose to initially undergo the French bikini waxing treatment instead of the Brazilian bikini waxing treatment, to experience the whole process and then review their position on the possibility and type of future pubic hair removal treatments.
