“WIZPLUS” (WP) is a menu-based utility program designed to modify the characters and game environment that have made the WIZARDRY game addictive for many enthusiasts across the country. WP has options to allow modification of all attributes associated with the individual game character. Additionally, gear that would normally be earned through intrepid adventures only needs to be chosen from a shopping list using an option called “BOLTACS SWINDLE”. WIZPLUS impacts gameplay in the first two WIZARDRY scenarios, allowing the player to bypass the careful game design that allows for progress through the adventure. WP also has excellent documentation that is well written and illustrated.
This program covers all facets of modifying your favorite character. Using this utility, it is possible to recover “out” characters, one of the most frustrating disasters that can occur while playing Wizardry. Hit points can be restored, skill scores, age, gold, or experience points can be changed. WP will also change the experience level, name, password, race, status, possible hit points, class, lineup of your favorite characters, and finally cleverly add both Priest and Wizard spells without the benefit of ordination.
There’s also an option called WizPlus Madi Special, which makes characters’ status correct (even if removed), reduces age, sets adventure status to IN, and finally sets the possible number of spells that can be cast in nine. Other options in the menu allow the display of your characters’ attributes, the recovery of characters from the Wizardry version 1.0 backup, or the movement of characters between scenarios without removing them from the previous scenario. [Note: Backups should be made before using WizPlus, as on three occasions while writing a character back to the scenario the program malfunctioned and the characters were permanently lost.]
The author of WizPlus indicates that abuse of his program will destroy the careful balance that the authors of Wizardry have designed into their games. There is also a serious problem with using this program in that once a character has been modified, it will not be changed.
Possible to transfer the “Spirit of the Ancestor” to the third scenario “LLYLGAMYN’S LEGACY”. As a result of improvements to the new scenario that increase game speed, characters that have been modded will not carry over. Therefore, those players who have enjoyed the first two games should know that using WizPlus destroys characters to continue playing this exciting series. WizPlus must be used with great caution or the adventurous spirit will be diluted and, more importantly, you will not be able to continue this exciting series.
