Many parents face problems when trying to get their children interested in mathematics. Math can be intimidating even for adults, so it’s no wonder kids try to avoid it.
In order to promote mathematics and make their children enjoy it, parents can use the Internet as a tool.
The Internet has become integrated into our daily lives. We use it in the workplace; it helps us manage our social life, do our shopping and so on. The same goes for our children. They use the Internet a lot throughout the day.
There isn’t always kid-friendly content online, so parents need to take steps to ensure their children’s online safety. However, with security measures in place, the Internet can be a great place for children to learn, socialize, and have fun.
The Internet introduces children to a whole new world, which can greatly contribute to their education and can be a lot of fun, so parents can definitely use it to have fun with math. When Math becomes a cool online game, it can be fun and easy.
I have searched the web to find suitable math sites for my children. I came up with two sites that help kids appreciate and enjoy math. When I was searching I took into account the following criteria:
- Security
- Chance
- educational value
- Entertainment

- Illuminations – This website is provided by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in the United States. The site offers lessons, activities, games, and helpful links covering all aspects of math. The site offers activities and lessons for grades preK-12.
- MathCats: Games, activities, craft ideas, and more to help kids learn and enjoy math. Most of the games and activities are suitable for children ages 6-12, but there are many activities that may also be suitable for adults. If you look at the sitemap of this site, you can find a table of all the activities divided by type and age appropriate. This site was created by Wendi Petti, a mother of three and a teacher for over 18 years. She has created this site to promote playful explorations of important math concepts.
