dungeon explorers

Times are tough for your small band of adventurers, you come across a potential customer in a run-down dungeon with an offer too good to refuse, clear out the vermin for a whopping 10,000 gold. How hard can it be? It’s not long before you realize there’s a lot more to this mission than meets the eye. dungeon explorers is a tactical RPG dungeon crawler with surprising depth for an iOS title.

I think what I liked the most dungeon explorers it’s that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. The dialogues are full of humor and the characters are likeable, even familiar, that’s because they were so inspired by the movie. Ghostbusters. Even their names are parodies of the characters in the movie and fans of the film will note that some of the script is taken directly from scenes from the 1984 classic. However, the plot is original with a couple of twists and turns.

The control scheme is nice and simple, all tapping and swiping, although the camera can be a bit finicky. I had better control of the camera by switching to iOS classic in the options, you lose some movement but the camera is more stable and much less jittery. The combat was a bit confusing at first, but it didn’t take long to get used to, and once you do, it’s a very efficient operating style. The touch screen is made for tactical RPGs and it would be nice to see more titles like this instead of the virtual joystick control that the developers seem to prefer.

dungeon explorers It’s quite an achievement visually, with the camera totally free you can really see the battlefield well. You can change the viewing angle, rotate the camera 360 degrees, and zoom in and out with ease. The character animation has a nice hand-drawn look and there’s a good variety of enemies. The levels can feel a bit monotonous at times, but hey, it’s a dungeon, it’s supposed to be grim. the sound effects are quite functional, there are the usual banging and banging, explosions, and other magical effects associated with strategy RPGs, and the music is a slightly dramatic operatic score that lends a serious edge to a game that, for the rest, he is cheerful. I would have liked some voice acting, but it’s not really a necessity, RPG players should be pretty comfortable reading story sequences.

As your characters level up, you increase your stats just like in other RPGs. They start with just 1 skill but you unlock more as you progress, each character eventually accumulating 5 skills to use which doesn’t sound like much but each skill is very different from the others and the different characters complement each other perfectly. You start with only 3 allies, they are very typical of a warrior, mage and cleric. Later you join Failston, who looks like a cross between a rogue and a barbarian. Tapping on a skill icon will give you a detailed description and some of them are pretty funny, especially the one with Failston, which has something to do with alcohol.

dungeon explorers it is a universal application; however, if you play on an older device, like me, you will need to clear the multitasking bar before playing, this prevents it from crashing. However, I found that on the rare occasion that it crashed, I didn’t lose any progress as the game auto-saves after every move. I did experience a crash in the last stage that didn’t allow me to complete the level, but after looking at the FAQ and poking around the forums, I think this is just bad luck on my part, maybe a corrupted save file (it happens). Anyway, it gave me the excuse to start over with a higher difficulty. While the game looks small at first glance, it takes a long time to play and if you get stuck, you have the option to start the level over again, or if it’s just one battle causing you trouble, you can replay the last encounter. .

After each level, you have the opportunity to visit the shop to buy gear or potions, but once a stage starts, the shop isn’t available unless you exit to the main menu, so plan ahead.

You also find gear through the game and I found that I never needed to buy anything, it can be achieved without buying weapons, but it gives you the option to choose weapons that you won’t find in the game. Gold is in short supply so you will need to think carefully about your purchases, although to make your life easier you can buy gold via IAP if you need a boost.

dungeon explorers is a fantastic strategy title, with some real depth. The pop culture references are entertaining and don’t detract from the plot. There is a lot of game here and quite challenging in places as well. Visually, it’s amazing for a mobile title and you don’t need an internet connection to play. I had a great time playing this and hope to see more titles like this in the future. I’m giving dungeon explorers 4 stars, it’s a reminder that mobile can be a serious gaming platform.
