Just when you think you have a Facebook handle, switch!
You probably noticed that the top line of your page now says…”Worked at ABC company“. I was very intrigued to see how many friends had never mentioned that they were changing jobs, but their company information was in the past tense! Then, if you click on that area to learn more about your company, you are completely left in white page!
Of course, easy to remedy. Please revisit your profile page and check the “I currently work here” box, and that will update the job to the present time.
As you know, if you want to promote your business within Facebook, you must do it with a fan page. Personally, I was sure that when my friends clicked on my company name at the top, I would go to the fan page I had created, but my link also went to a blank page!
I often abbreviate my company name, which is how I put it on my profile, but my fan page is under the full company name. Just make sure your fan page is correct and linked to your company information at the top of your page. You may need to delete your company information on your profile like I did and re-enter it.
One of my friends was discussing with me the value of Facebook as a tool to promote your business, saying that it doesn’t really matter if you have a link to your company’s fan page or not. The truth of the matter is, if you take the time to include your business name on your profile, you need to take the time to ensure that the tools offered to you work properly.
Also remember that when you update your profile, your friends find out and quite often want to see what you actually updated, so use it wisely.
