How to Backup and Record Wii Games

Backing up Wii games and then burning them is quite simple if you have the right tools and knowledge. In a nutshell, the process is basically as follows: you need to first download the game data as an ISO, and then burn that ISO to a new disc.

This is done using a tool called imgBurn, which is available on the internet (simply Google “imgburn” to download it). ImgBurn is a utility that allows you to copy discs, “rip” data from discs, and burn ISOs to discs. It is a complete solution to backup your games and it is the main component of this tutorial.

To get started, you must first place the Wii game disc in your DVD drive. There are rumors that you need to have a specific disc to read Wii games, but the only way to find out if yours does is to play the game and see if imgBurn copies it. After installing the game on your PC, you need to download and install imgBurn. This will allow you to download the game data and put it on your PC as an ISO file.

Once you have imgBurn installed, simply load it and then look for the “rip CD” option. Click on it and then let it continue downloading the ISO file to your PC. If all goes to plan, you should be able to see that there is now a 4GB file on your PC. This is where the Wii game has been downloaded to your hard drive and is ready to be burned.

To then burn this to a backup disc, you need to load imgBurn again, and this time click the “burn from ISO” option. This will allow you to put your PC game data on a blank disc and by selecting this option you will be able to put your game data on a blank DVD. You just need to select the ISO file of the game and then get imgBurn to burn it to disc. One important note here is that you should burn your new drive using 4X write speed as it has the highest success rate.

Although this tutorial should work, there are a few other parts of the puzzle that will help you increase your chances of being able to backup and burn Wii games. You need to be able to do several important things on your PC and console for it to work 100% of the time, and that’s where some more advanced tutorials are needed.
