MOMpreneurs: Taking care of you

Have you ever thought, or even admitted to someone, that you just don’t have time for yourself because of your job and your responsibilities as a parent? And has anyone ever looked at you and tilted their head to the side and said, “Really?” Unfortunately, many people don’t understand what it’s like to be a mom and an entrepreneur. Here are some ways that can give you the quality time you deserve.

Wake up early

This can be difficult, especially if you’re not a morning person. However, if you try it for a week or so, waking up an hour earlier may help you start the day with peace and quiet. We all know how hard it is to hit the snooze button over and over again, only to find that this has led you to mindlessly run and pick up the kids. Setting that alarm an hour earlier (without hitting the snooze button!) will give you some time to yourself.

Depends on positive affirmations

Oh those dates! And how influential they can be! The mind is a powerful organ and positive affirmations can help you put your mind in a positive state. Find positive affirmations about women, moms, and entrepreneurs that strike a chord within you. Copy and paste them to your desktop, your phone, or write them down and keep them in your office. Doing whatever it takes to always have them near you will ensure that you always have an emotional and motivating pick-me-up on the spot.

find that friend

Many moms who are also entrepreneurs take comfort in knowing they have one or two very close friends who share similar goals and dreams. Getting together for coffee one day a week or meeting for lunch can make a significant difference and improve your emotional well-being. Taking care of yourself can also involve taking care of each other by emotionally cheering them up, forgetting about work for a while, and just laughing together.

stay on track

Find a good routine and stick to it. This can be tricky with children, but it can be done. Children, especially younger ones, also crave routine and structure. Create a schedule for yourself and your children, and make sure you have time just for yourself. A routine with specific times and what needs to be accomplished by those times will keep unexpected stress away, or at least significantly lessen it.

To meditate

Many people love meditation, whether in a spiritual way, through yoga, by repeating a mantra, or just as a simple, relaxing reflection. Meditation is commonly and successfully done to relax and relieve stress. You can meditate for 15 minutes a day and work up to 45 minutes a day; is what works for you. One thing is for sure: meditation works for many people by calming the mind and giving a feeling of freshness and renewal.

All of these suggestions have one thing in common: you’re taking time for yourself. Finding time for yourself, even if you think you don’t have time, will help relieve stress. If you are a mother who is also an entrepreneur, she dedicates a small part of your day (even if it is only 15 minutes!) just to focus on you.
