The Samsung Galaxy S2: The World’s Most Wanted Smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy S2 currently enjoys the title as the most desired smartphone in the world. This is such an unexpected achievement for an Android phone as there are so many available in the market. Most of us expected Apple’s iPhone 4 to remain in the top spot. Despite the influx of Android devices, it still managed to top the charts as the most coveted phone of 2011.

Before we take a look at the numbers, let’s take a look at the sales performance of Apple’s current flagship phone. The phone manufactured by the Cupertino firm was announced in June 2010. When it went on sale in the United States on June 24 of the same year, who would have thought that 1.7 million units would be sold on June 26? Nobody thought that any other phone that the competition had to offer would perform so well when it comes to sales. That’s what we think.

In February 2011, Samsung announced its new flagship. This was the Galaxy S2. The phone’s camera with a number of functions that we previously thought were impossible. It has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. It has an 8-megapixel front camera along with a 2-megapixel rear camera for video calls. The biggest achievement, though, was cramming all this cutting-edge hardware into a phone that was just 8.49mm thick. Furthermore, the phone weighed just 116 grams. Compared to the iPhone 4’s single-core processor, 5-megapixel camera, 9.3mm thickness and 737-gram weight, Samsung’s smartphone was a marvel of technology. With these specifications of the phone, the phone began to attract the attention of consumers.

In April 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S2 was released to the public. Despite the phone’s superior specifications, many still believed that it could not compete with Apple’s smartphone. They were wrong. In just 55 days, the smartphone went on sale, reached the 3 million mark. In July it surpassed this sales record by selling 5 million units. This September, the phone hit the 10 million mark.

You may be thinking, “Great deal!” The iPhone 4 reached 1.7 units sold in just a few days it went on sale. However, think about this. The smartphone hit the 5 million mark without ever launching in the US. Furthermore, it did this incredible feat with a fraction of the money spent on advertising and marketing compared to the massive amount of money spent by Apple.

With these data before you, do you still doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the most desired smartphone in the world?
