What are you looking for in children’s earrings?

What is sensible to look for? Well, when we look for earrings for ourselves, we want comfort, security and of course, that it looks good. And we really want to LOVE the earrings! Well, shopping for children’s earrings is much the same, but with a couple of extras to keep in mind, especially when buying our children their first pairs of earrings for their newly pierced ears. We have put together 6 points to guide you.

1. First of all, the earrings must be made of a non-toxic metal. Sterling silver, stainless steel or gold. Alloys with which we must be careful, since we do not know the components and they could contain elements as toxic as cadmium, lead or nickel. These elements can cause serious health problems for children, especially the youngest.

2. They should be short so as not to overwhelm a small earlobe. Big earrings on small lobes, not a good look! Also, the bigger they are, the heavier they are, and if this is your first time wearing earrings, the smaller the better.

3. They must be light and comfortable. Especially for those who are wearing earrings for the first time, who might play the violin if they can feel them. If they can’t feel them, they’ll forget they’re wearing them, therefore they won’t play with them and lose them. Avoid small dangling earrings for beginners, because the movement will only serve to remind them of the earrings they are wearing. Playing with them usually results in the back falling out and losing an earring. And you don’t want to be shopping for new kids’ earrings every week!

4. They must have a short shaft, therefore made for children, not adults. However, adults can usually wear children’s earrings! Surprisingly, the thickness of the ears doesn’t change much as we get older. But if the rod is short, it will not push against your head behind the ear, which is very important!

5. They must have firmly fitted backrests or security screws. The earrings we choose with love are too good to lose!

6. And they must have an element that is attractive to children! Now this could be color, as in colored stones or enamel, or shape, as in features like hearts, ladybugs, butterflies, etc. Sparkle and shine is another very attractive feature for children. A sparkling lead-free crystal or cz stone, especially in pink or another child-friendly color, or highly polished silver or gold, both present to children, especially younger ones, who really love them.
